« SZ38 » armchair in brown velvet by Martin Visser and Dick van der Net for Spectrum 60’s

Description

Designed in the early 1960s by Martin Visser and Dick van der Net for Spectrum, the SZ38/SZ08 armchair exemplifies the functional simplicity and formal precision of post-war Dutch design. Produced between 1960 and 1968, it remains one of the most sought-after models in the Spectrum collection.

The seat and backrest are upholstered in their original deep, warm brown velvet, which is in excellent condition. The dense texture of the fabric subtly catches the light and contrasts with the starkness of the metal frame. The leather armrests, also original, display a natural and even patina—in their original condition—bearing witness to their age without detracting from their elegance or integrity.

The whole thing rests on a fine metal structure, characteristic of Visser’s work, where visual lightness and constructive solidity come together with precision.

The example shown is in excellent original condition. The velvet retains all its texture and depth of color, while the leather of the armrests displays an authentic patina, sought after by collectors.
