Description

In the 1970s, several Asian workshops developed geographical globes made of hard stones and mother-of-pearl, combining decorative cartography and artisanal craftsmanship. This large-scale model, made and then acquired in Japan, perfectly illustrates this tradition where each continent is inlaid with carefully polished natural materials.

The structure rests on a base of crafted metal, designed to support the sphere and allow its rotation. The manufacturer is not identified, as is often the case for these small-batch productions made in specialized workshops.

The condition is very good, with a light patina on the metal and a superb luster to the mother-of-pearl. The piece measures 50 cm high and 40 cm wide, making it a striking size for a contemporary interior or a collection dedicated to geographical objects.

As much a decorative piece as a testament to artisanal know-how, this globe naturally finds its place on a desk, a console or in a library, where it brings a graphic and elegant presence.
