Description
In 1950s Italy, some decorative objects still drew on a classical vocabulary, while being produced using modern post-war industrial methods. This scallop-shaped trinket tray perfectly illustrates this transition between historical reference and contemporary domestic use. Made in Italy around the 1950s, it is crafted from silvered brass, likely cast and then hand-finished to refine the details.
The shell shape is clearly defined, with regular intaglio work and a rim accentuated by a slight curve. The upper decoration incorporates a discreet ornamental motif, characteristic of Italian pieces from this period, often intended for tableware or small decorative objects. The piece is in good condition. The silver plating has a uniform patina, with slightly worn areas and fine signs of use, consistent with its age.
