Description
In 1940s Italy, certain workshops developed a strong taste for richly decorative surfaces, blending precious metal and organic materials. This box is a refined illustration of this, with mother-of-pearl veneer arranged in a checkerboard pattern. Italian rectangular box, circa 1940. Silver structure (no visible hallmarks), entirely covered with iridescent natural mother-of-pearl inlays. The hinged lid reveals a simple and functional wooden interior. The construction testifies to precise craftsmanship, with each mother-of-pearl plate individually fitted. Condition consistent with age. The silver has a uniform patina, with some light marks. Clean interior. Some micro-wear on the corners, without affecting the overall appearance.
