Description
In 1960s Italy, certain household objects reflected a marked taste for fine materials and bold forms. This ashtray perfectly embodies this aesthetic, balancing geometric rigor with the sensuality of the materials. The body is composed of a thick, octagonal, cut glass with clean, regular edges. It is set within a wide, brown leather band, covered and sculpted in three dimensions, adding warmth and contrast to the transparency of the glass. Italian production, probably from a specialized workshop, with no known signature, like many pieces from this period.
The condition is very good. The glass is well preserved, without any noticeable chips. The leather has a deep and even patina, which highlights the quality of the material and its natural aging. It will find its place on a coffee table, a desk or in a library, as an object of character, emblematic of Italian design of the 1960s, both graphic and tactile.
