Description
A quietly evocative framed oil on canvas by French artist Robert Bouille (1926–2021), depicting two female nudes in a moment of gentle intimacy. The figures are rendered with a soft, sculptural sensibility, their forms simplified yet expressive, set against a painterly, atmospheric ground.
Trained as a sculptor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Bouille approached the human form with a strong sense of volume and balance. This is reflected in the rounded contours and calm presence of the figures, where a classical influence meets a subtly modern, stylised hand.
The palette is restrained yet luminous, with warm ochre tones set against cooler, textured blues, the oil paint handled with a certain softness that enhances the work’s quiet depth and timeless quality. Signed R. Bouille, lower right.
