Description
A charcoal drawing by Swedish modernist Edvard Andersson, monogram-signed and dated EA 1930. Interlocking curved and angular forms, part figure, part pure geometry and drawn with confident, fluid line work and tonal shading. The composition belongs to Andersson’s cubist period of the late 1920s and 1930s, during which his work moved from portraiture towards increasingly abstract form. Andersson (1891–1967) trained at the Higher School of Art and Design in Stockholm, now Konstfack, and held his debut exhibition in Helsingborg in 1918. His work is represented in collections in Malmö, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Helsingborgs Museum. Framed in walnut.
