Description
From the early 1970s, Carmelo Cappello developed a series of objects for Alessi in which the boundary between sculpture and functional design was deliberately blurred. Forma Orizzontale Circolare fits perfectly within this research, conceived as a spatial composition as much as a functional object.
Crafted from polished metal, this large trinket tray features a fragmented circular geometry, structured by overlapping volumes and taut lines. The interplay of solids and voids, along with the fluid curves, creates a dynamic reading of the surface, typical of Cappello’s work from this period. The overall effect evokes a stable and balanced horizontal sculpture, while maintaining a perfectly legible function.
The piece is signed Carmelo Cappello and bears his engraved stock number , attesting to an original production for Alessi.
The state of preservation is very good : the metal has a beautiful shine, with only slight micro-traces of use, consistent with its age and without altering the formal reading.
Dimensions: Width 34 cm by 4.5 cm high
An iconic object of 1970s Italian design, both radical and elegant, ideal as a centerpiece on a coffee table, desk or console, and perfectly representative of the dialogue between art and industry dear to Carmelo Cappello and Alessi.
