Description
In 1950s Italy, many workshops combined precious woods and brass to create utilitarian objects with clean lines. The contrast between warm materials and patinated metal became a subtle signature of this period. This Italian box, circa 1950, is made of veneered wood, probably rosewood or similar, with a fitted lid. The ends are adorned with brass plates, secured with small tacks. Two inlaid brass stripes accentuate the lid. Handcrafted, carefully assembled, and with balanced proportions. Good overall condition. The wood has a beautiful depth of color, with slight signs of wear consistent with its age.
The brass is patinated, with irregular marks and variations in tone that bear witness to time without detracting from its structure. Its dimensions — 18 cm long, 10 cm wide and 5.5 cm high — make it a practical size, easy to place. Use it as a jewelry box, for mail, or small office items. Its understated presence suits both classic and modernist interiors.
