Description
In the 1930s, Art Deco imposed a controlled geometry and a pronounced taste for precious materials. Everyday objects then became decorative pieces, where the contrast of materials played a central role. This Italian Art Deco ashtray in brass and mother-of-pearl perfectly illustrates this quest for structured elegance. Its square shape with chamfered corners frames a circular basin of polished brass. The rim is punctuated by mother-of-pearl inlays, whose iridescent reflections subtly complement the warm golden hue of the metal. The overall design presents a graphic composition typical of the 1930s, both understated and refined.
The condition is good, with a pronounced patina of brass in the center, a testament to its history. The mother-of-pearl is well-preserved, with slight natural variations and a few micro-marks consistent with age, which enhance its authenticity. It measures 10 cm wide by 1.5 cm high, a delicate and perfectly proportioned size. Placed on a desk, a dressing table or integrated into an Art Deco collection, it also functions as a precious little catchall, bringing an elegant and timeless 30’s touch.
