Description
Designed in the 1960s by Martin Visser for the Dutch manufacturer Spectrum, this coffee table perfectly illustrates the rigor and elegance of post-war Dutch design. True to the designer’s modernist approach, the piece combines clean lines, high-quality materials, and precise joinery. The square smoked glass top rests on a minimalist structure composed of four solid wooden legs, connected by chromed steel tubular bars. The visible circular metal fixings on the uprights emphasize the technical nature of the construction and provide a graphic detail typical of Spectrum furniture from this period. The contrast between the warmth of the wood, the shine of the steel and the transparency of the smoked glass gives the whole a sculptural presence while maintaining a great visual lightness.
With its balanced proportions — 88 cm wide by 37 cm high — this coffee table fits easily into a contemporary interior as well as into a vintage design collection. Very good vintage condition. Smoked glass well preserved, stable and elegant structure with a light patina of time which contributes to the charm of the piece.
