Description
A ceramic wall plate by the acclaimed Finnish sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen (1894–1966), produced in the 1930s. The circular plate features a relief of a female nude in motion, surrounded by flowing ribbons — a subject very much in the spirit of the Art Deco era. The warm, honey-toned glaze is consistent across the whole surface, deepening slightly in the recesses of the relief and giving the figure a soft, sculptural presence. Equally at home hung on a wall, displayed on a shelf, or set on a table as a fruit bowl or decorative dish.
Condition: In great vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. A very small glaze flake present on the back of the rim, best seen from the side — not noticeable from the front.
Diameter: 35 cm (13.8″)
